Alternative giving

A form of gift giving in which the giver makes a donation to a charitable organization in the recipient’s name, rather than giving an item, has become known as “alternative giving.” The idea of giving something to one person by paying another was invented by Benjamin Franklin as a “trick [...] for doing a deal of good with a little money”, which came to be known as “pay it forward.”

Here are some options that you can “gift” through LPGM:

  • $5.00 to support a woman (family) in the Village Savings & Loan program in the Central African Republic
  • $10.00 provides a uniform and supplies for one student in India
  • $10.00 will supply a seminary student with a Bible in his or her own language in the Central African Republic
  • $15.00 will ensure new books are purchased for a community library in India
  • $20.00 will encourage the church in Argentina as they work to reach out in their communities
  • $25.00 provides the necessities for one child to attend school in the Central African Republic
  • $50.00 grants one cataract surgery for a patient who needs the procedure but does not have the resources to pay the doctor

There is also a need for larger “gifts”

  • $600 grants the funds for a middle school in the Arcot Lutheran church in  India to create a science lab that includes equipment,  charts, models, chemicals and specimens
  • $1,000 will provide a rural school of the Arcot Lutheran Church in India with a reliable source of water through a brand new well
  • $1,400 for improved toilet facilities in a middle school or higher secondary school of the Arcot Lutheran Church in India
  • $2,500 will provide intensive English storytelling training for teachers in schools of the Arcot Lutheran Church in India (this includes the conference, lodging, meals and transportation for several teachers)
