The Lebanon Home for Women

Lebanon Women’s Home 1Lebanon Women’s Home 2Lebanon Women’s Home 3 LPGM supports the Lebanon Home for abandoned or widowed women in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. In the Indian culture women who have been married but now have no husband are not able to be married again. The Lebanon Home, operated by the Arcot Lutheran Church, provides a safe and productive environment for these women and their children. About 40 women live on this campus supporting themselves by weaving towels, napkins, placemats, shoulder bags, tablecloths and other goods that are sold in India, Denmark and, mostly through LPGM, in the United States. Goods from the Lebanon Home are available through the LPGM office. All of the money received through these sales goes directly back to the Lebanon Home.

Lebanon Women’s Home linensHolden Village Designates Funds for India

DeAne Lagerquist, a staff member at Holden Village who visited India and the Lebanon Home for Women, has informed us that they intend to donate to that institution. In addition, they are interested in displaying linens from Lebanon to advertise these beautiful products to Holden Village visitors and staff. DeAne wrote the following:

“I’m very pleased to report that Holden Village (holdenvillage.org), a Lutheran retreat community in the Cascade Mountains of Washington state, has designated Lebanon Home as one of the three recipients of our summer offerings. While our visit [to India] prompted this idea, the fact that Holden has a small weaving room where guests often spend time making bags or runners for themselves or as guests made this seem like a good idea.”
