News from India

LCMS Volunteers Beth & David Hoeppner report that the boys’ dormitory, a building that is part of Concordia Boys’ Hostel (also known as Boarding Home) on the Lutheran Mission Compound in Nagercoil, India, collapsed in December 2010 during the rainy season.  The boys needed to sleep on the veranda of the nearby bungalow to keep out of the rain.  They have now moved into the nearby school at night.  The rest of the buildings and playground are still functioning, so the boys continue to eat their meals, wash their clothes and play cricket on the hostel premises.

A grant application has been submitted to LCMS to rebuild the boys dormitory in Nagercoil.  The structure is designed to house up to 100 boys with possible expansion at a later date.  LPGM has been working with officials of the IELC and Mr. Darin Storkson, Area Program Director to Southeast Asia, Lutheran Church Missouri Synod to make this project a priority for LCMS World Relief that supports such projects around the world.  We pray that funds will be available soon so these boys will have a safe and clean place to live while attending the Concordia High School.

Please contact LPGM for more information if can help us solve this crisis situation. Either Mark Warpmaeker, Executive Director, or Gordon Olson, Founding Director, can answer your questions. They can be reached in our office at 612-823-5058.
