A New Kitchen in Hector, MN Made a New Kitchen in South India!
A little congregation in south central Minnesota decided to remodel its kitchen in the church fellowship hall. When told of the need for a new kitchen at the Melpattambakkam Boarding Home for girls in India, the leadership of Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Hector, MN decided to do two kitchens instead of one. The kitchen in India feeds over 600 girls daily, yet the major improvements to the kitchen, including new gas systems, ventilation system rice cookers and permanent shelving and facilities for washing large pans and utensils, cost only about $10,000! The members of Swedlanda raised all the funds within one year. When the tsunami hit the coast of India a few months later, in December, 2004, over 5000 extra meals a day were prepared in this newly remodeled kitchen to provide emergency food to victims for the first month or so. God prepared the people in Hector, MN to be able to respond to the tsunami disaster, helping people they hadn’t even heard of! An amazing story.
