Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd (Minneapolis, MN) Visits Partner Congregation Nuestro Salvador (Montevideo, Uruguay)
The second trip to Uruguay took place for Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd from February 25th through March 3rd. Below is an article written by trip leader, Janet Fystrom.
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up the other . . . Ecclesiastes 4:9-10a
“These verses from Ecclesiastes emphasize the futility of the solitary person and underscore the advantages of companionship and the value of friendship. never were these words truer than last week when a group of nine traveled to Montevideo, Uruguay, and spent time with our companion church, Nuestro Salvador. The travelers were Rob Albright, Jessie Bock, Amanda Eittreim, Jean Eittreim, Charlie Fystrom, Janet Fystrom, Stacey Johnson, Sue Lyke, and Rachel Stein.
“During our time together we visited Nuestro Salvador’s mission outreach programs at la Obra and Mision San Juan, participated in Bible studies, devotions, and a worship service. We learned about natural church development, which Nuestro Salvador has been working on for the past year, and saw the results with them almost doubling their membership. We spent time in the homes of families, many of whom did not speak English and most of us had little or no Spanish. In spite of our language difficulties, we were able to communicate on a deep and spiritual level.”
