Congregations give 10%
We are looking for congregations with a desire to reach out and do something extraordinary in the global community by tithing (10%) on or giving a portion of their capital funds to build a hospital, school, church or other project somewhere in the world.
By giving 10% of a current campaign global mission becomes a part of a planned fundraising campaign and a way to share resources and perhaps even increase the size of the original project. The very best things about the projects are the relationships and partnerships built during the process. This is how it works:
A congregation plans to raise funds to build a new church, add to its existing building, or even pay down a current mortgage and included in the building budget is an amount (usually 5% to 15%) designated to be “shared” with a local and/or global projects. Many congregations raising funds find it very meaningful to help with a global building program by giving away only one tenth of the amount pledged.
Global churches need partners to help build clinics, schools, churches, orphanages or dormitories for children. The amazing thing about most “developing” economies is that buildings can be constructed for perhaps one tenth the cost of building in the United States or Europe. The receiving congregation or organization commits to a “self-help” amount, usually 10-25% of the total cost so it is truly a partnership. In return we receive great satisfaction in giving, gratitude of our global friends, and relationships that will enrich our lives forever.
Some congregations hesitate to take the first step in this tithing initiative. But after the step has been taken, no one wants to turn back. The joys are great and the rewards are many.
