We have exciting news to share: a group of generous donors have offered to match your gift to LPGM today, up to $25,000!

Your gift can go twice as far to help girls like Bhuvaneshwari.

Bhuvaneshwari Loganathan is in the 10th grade at the Siloam Boarding School in Tamil Nadu, India. She is a typical student in South India. Her mother — a widow — sells flowers in Bangalore, more than five hours from their home. The boarding home at Siloam provides Bhuvaneshwari, the youngest of three, a home, a quality education, extra-curricular activities and a community of friends.

Bhuvaneshwari (right) is a typical girl at Siloam Boarding Home in India. You can help girls like her stay in school, and beat the odds.

Bhuvaneshwari is a member of the home’s food committee, a group of committed students who help plan, prepare and oversee the meals for Siloam’s more than 700 girls. They even run an organic garden on campus, where they grow greens and other vegetables to add to their meals.

But life is not always easy or certain for girls like Bhuvaneshwari, and she is worried about her future. Her older sister, formerly a student at Siloam as well, was forced to drop out of school to get married.

Teenage marriage is all too common for girls in India, and the effect on girls is horrifying. In fact, the number one cause of death for girls between the ages of 15 and 19 is childbirth.

Educating girls is crucial. Just look at these statistics:

  • Girls who go through at least 8th grade are four times less likely to be child brides.
  • An extra year of education for a girl can give her 20% more income as an adult.
  • Educated mothers are more than twice as likely to send their children to school.

You can help girls like Bhuvaneshwari stay in school, and beat the odds.

LPGM donors sponsor more than 1350 students in India, helping them play, pray, laugh and learn in a stable, nurturing environment.

And in Guatemala, you can help more girls stay in school through an innovative agroecology program through our partner Community Cloud Forest Conservation. This 25-day education provides scholarships to program graduates for their next year of schooling.

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of girls (and boys!) around the world. LPGM’s educational initiatives are transforming lives, and your contributions show how you love your neighbor, even if that neighbor is someone you may never meet.
