In my office hangs a quote:
Our biggest opportunities to be like Jesus often come when our plans are interrupted.
The worldwide pandemic in 2020 certainly interrupted our plans for Project Education India and the student(s) whom you so loyally support.
When it became clear that schools were going to be closed for some time, the Arcot Lutheran Church went to work to bring school to the children’s villages. Boarding home staff made weekly visits to the villages to keep the children engaged in their studies and to insure their health and safety.

With the lack of unemployment insurance and food shelves in India, your ongoing support made it possible to continue financial support for these staff as well as to distribute dry ration food kits to the neediest students and families. Thank you!
Good news came this week in an email from Victor, our LPGM field coordinator in the Kalrayan Hills. He sent greetings with “a lot of pleasure and a big smile” because some of their students are returning to the boarding home after a long time away.

Schools Reopen for 10th and 12th Standard Students
Upon seeing a decrease of infection from COVID-19, the government in Tamil Nadu announced the reopening of schools for the 10th and 12th standard (grade) students. These students can return to school and the boarding home with their parents’ permission.
In a normal school year, these students would take their government exams in March. Due to the pandemic, exams have been pushed back to May to allow extra time to prepare with their teachers and tutors.

Our boarding home staff have been hard at work preparing for the children’s return. The boarding homes have been cleaned and disinfected. Government and Department of Education rules and regulations include masks, frequent handwashing and sanitizer, and twice daily temperature checks.
If you sponsor a 10th or 12th Standard student, you may want to send them a message welcoming them back. If your student is in another grade, your greetings will be much appreciated as they await the day they can rejoin their friends, teachers, and classmates.
Bishop Kennady from the Arcot Lutheran Church has asked me to thank you for your support and requests us all to kindly remember the boarding home staff and the children in our prayers.
With ongoing appreciation,
Mary Peterson
