Klaus Schustereder has worked from 2005 – 2007 in Central African Republic. He first worked as a consultant and later became medical director of the Hospital in Baboua (Nana Mambere – CAR). He also was a medical consultant for the Evangelic Lutheran Church of CAR. He always stayed in contact with local (Préfecture Sanitaire in Bouar), regional (region sanitaire – Berberati), and national authorities (ministry of health). As a former director of a government hospital he is all too aware of the challenges doctors in CAR face every day. Unfortunately government activities are not sufficient to build up a national health care system. Sustainable health facilities are only run by churches.
