Two buildings are being expanded to include a surgical space, two delivery rooms, and in-patient and out-patient spaces. Nigeria’s Lutheran Church provided a 75KVA generator and the Demsa Local Government provided a transformer to connect the center to the national power grid.
During 2015 renovations, the most frequent surgeries conducted (in a non-surgical room) included appendectomies, C-sections, hernia repair, and one amputation. Current staffing includes 1 doctor, 2 nurses, 3 community health workers, 5 lab workers, 2 pharmacy environmental health workers, 2 cleaners, 2 security workers, and 1 storekeeper/gardener.
This Demsa PPT from volunteer consultant, Jay Johnson, offers an update.
