Daily walk or hikes on gravel and dirt paths in the cloud forest. These paths may be muddy and slippery due to recent rain. May include physical activities like digging, planting trees, or other gardening.
Optional high-activity adventures include swimming in natural ponds, exploring caves, and hiking to local villages.
Your journey to Guatemala is to the central highlands of Alta Verapaz where you will meet indigenous Q'eqchi' Maya young women who are transforming their communities through agroecology education.
Through personal and group reflection, you'll unravel complex issues related to climate change and the environment, spirituality and religion, education, empowering girls and women, and building community.

Arrive in Guatemala CityFlights typically connect to Guatemala City from Miami or Houston airports.
CCFC staff meet the group at the airport. We'll then take an approximately 5 hour bus ride to CCFC's center in the central highlands (Alta Verapaz).

Experiential Learning at CCFC
Experiential learning at CCFC and surrounding villages. Experiences may include walking tours of campus, learning about the programs of CCFC, interacting with local students attending the Kids & Birds program, planting trees, visiting local villages, and attending worship.

What isn't included?
- Airfare. We often help with booking, but you will be responsible for the cost of your flights to and from Guatemala.
- Passport. You will need a passport with at least six months until expiration beyond your travel dates.
- Vaccinations and preventative drugs. We suggest visiting a special travel clinic. Cost depends upon your insurance, copays and prescription benefits.
- Other Personal Expenses. Shopping, souvenirs, additional snacks or beverages you may choose to purchase during your trip.

What are the travel/accommodations like?
In-country transportation is typically by mini-bus, or pickup truck for shorter trips.

Lodging
Overnight accommodations range from hostel or dormitory-style rooms with shared bathrooms with amenities such as Wi-Fi.

Food
Most meals are vegetarian-based, prepared by Advanced WALC interns, who are alumnae of the WALC program and now work for CCFC while they attend college. Expect plenty of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, fresh-baked bread, local coffee, and plenty of black beans, tortillas, and salsa!
