LPGM Champion Ann Campbell Retires from Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka
After many years of dedication to children’s ministry, Ann Campbell has retired from her role at Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka, Minnesota. In this interview with LPGM board member Kellie Johnson, she reflects on her time with Zion and LPGM and the memories that made her ministry so meaningful.
How many years have you worked at Zion, and in what roles?
I started on the children's ministry team in 2016.
What has been the most rewarding part of your time at Zion?
Having ten years to spend with kids and families is such an honor. This year's high school seniors were in my second grade Sunday School class! It's a blessing to be with them for that long of a faith journey.
What are you looking forward to in retirement?
Priority number one is spending more time with my granddaughter and family.
How long have you been involved with LPGM?
Our Sunday School was looking for a new long-term service project. A member of our congregation, who volunteers extensively with LPGM (Verne Winter), suggested we consider sponsoring children through LPGM.
What inspired you to get involved with LPGM?
The opportunity for our kids to communicate with the kids we were sponsoring was a huge factor in our decision. We were looking for a project that built connections.
What have you learned from the students you’ve supported?
If long-distance relationships can really happen between children located halfway around the world from each other, adults should be able to do the same!
Would you share a story or experience that means the most to you?
We were blessed to have a couple from our congregation who transported small packets of handmade cards and photos to the children we sponsor in India. That tangible, hands-on experience was meaningful to all the children!
What would you say to someone who was considering donating to, and/or volunteering with, LPGM, but they just weren’t sure?
LPGM is an effective outreach and a meaningful way to participate in God's work in the world. Go for it!
