Meet Sarvesh: Avoiding Field Labor Through Sponsorship

"My name is Sarvesh, and I am studying in 8th grade [in the Kalrayan Hills of Tamil Nadu, India].

My parents are separated, and my mother is the one taking care of our studies. She works for a textile company, and her job is to remove thread from fabric.

My younger sister and I are sponsored by LPGM. Without sponsorship, we would have ended up doing some kind of work—probably field labor.

Last year, our school fees were very high, and we were thinking of going to work, or even going to a boarding home with cheaper fees.

That is when Victor (LPGM sponsor relations coordinator) told us, ‘Don’t go anywhere. Stay here and study. I will help you with sponsorship. Your fees will reduce.’

Because of that support, this year we are studying well, and I am taking good care of my sister. Thanks to LPGM sponsorship for everything."

Sponsor a Student like Sarvesh

ALC boarding homes offer a safe and nurturing refuge for students at the margins as they go to school and dream about bright futures. Since 1996, LPGM sponsors and supporters have provided housing, food, healthcare, spiritual guidance, and emotional support for ALC boarding home students. Today, sponsors support approximately 1,200 students a year across four ALC boarding homes.

Sponsored children come from poor and marginalized families. Many are Dalit. Their parents often work as day laborers in far-away cities, or as migrant farmers. It is a great relief for them to know that their children are receiving excellent care, supervision, and education at the boarding homes.
