Vacation Bible School Uses Spare Change to Spark Change
Looking for a project for your Vacation Bible School (VBS) or Sunday School offerings to support? Consider Lutheran Partners in Global Ministry (LPGM)!
In 2023, Oak Hill Church-CLB (Bloomington, Minn.) chose LPGM's Library Project as the mission focus for its VBS offering collection.
Each day, the children brought in specific coins. Monday, they brought in pennies; Tuesday, nickels and dimes; Wednesday, quarters, and Thursday, dollar bills.

LPGM Development Director Bethany Krepela brought in samples of books to show children what their spare change could provide. LPGM also created a video for the closing program, showing VBS children and families the students who would be helped.
By week’s end, the offering totaled $430, which purchased 430 books for Dalit schoolchildren in India.

“We like partnering with LPGM for a couple of reasons,” shares Laura Pilcher, Oak Hill's Children’s Ministry director. “One being that not everyone who attends our VBS attends Oak Hill, so they are not as familiar with some of the synod partnerships that we often use as our offering donation.”
“Another reason is that within VBS, and even our Sunday School classes, we teach children how we are called to serve and be the hands and feet of Jesus. Partnering with LPGM provides children a meaningful and tangible way that they can serve those in need as well as show them Christ’s love.”

Laura Pilcher, Oak Hill Children's Ministry director, leads an activity during VBS.
This summer, Oak Hill’s VBS theme is “SonSpark Lab,” which is science-related. They have chosen to put their offerings toward science and technology at the boarding homes in India, which are in desperate need of updated equipment.
“We are looking forward to supporting LPGM programs through our Vacation Bible School offerings this summer!” Laura adds.
