What Does Education Mean to You?

Every month, LPGM U.S. and India staff meet over Zoom to check in. The meeting often begins with a question. At a recent meeting, the question was, “What does education mean to you?”

For many members of the LPGM team, education has acted as a "key" or "golden ticket" to new worlds and opportunities. For others, education has been a special gift that no one can take away from them. Still others shared how education has helped them overcome adversity or see the world in new and exciting ways.

A Key that Unlocks Access

Laura Feile (international program manager) shared, "Education is the key to unlock countless opportunities such as having this job and working with this team." Praveen Kumar (sponsor relations coordinator at Saron Boarding Home) added, "Education is the golden ticket from the past. I have had opportunities that others in my family have not had."

A Gift that is Never Lost

According to Aswin Subramani (sponsor relations coordinator at Siloam Boarding Home), "Education is a powerful weapon that no one can take away from me. It gives me independence and respect."

Victor Prince (sponsor relations coordinator in the Kalrayan Hills) echoed, "Education is superior wealth that can never be lost, unlike money or political connections." Bethany Krepela (development director) reiterated, "My father taught me that education is something that can never be taken away from you."

An Opportunity that Fosters Joy & Curiosity

According to the Rev. Dan Ruth (executive director), "I love education. I am curious and love to learn. I have even thought of going back to school, but I'm not sure what I’d study!"

Shannon Mahedy (communications coordinator) stated, "Education allows me to see and interact with the world in new ways. It gives me a framework, shows me how to think critically, and fosters curiosity in me."

An Achievement that Echoes Across Generations

Elangovan Mu See (India program manager) said, "I am the first person in my family to achieve post-graduate status, and everything in my life and career ties back to my education." John Anthony (finance & office administrator) continued, "Education was highly valued in my family, especially by my mother, because she was the daughter of immigrants, and her parents didn’t have access to education past a certain year. Thus, it was not taken for granted."

Keerthiga M. (sponsor relations coordinator at Melpattambakkam Boarding Home) proudly stated, "I am the first graduate in my home. Education lifts me up, and it has been a huge help for me as a single mother. I have a lot of pride in my educational pursuits."
