People travel for many reasons. Some chase the thrill of adventure—climbing mountains, exploring ancient ruins, or tasting food in faraway markets. Others travel to rest and renew, seeking quiet beaches or peaceful retreats. Many travel to “give back,” volunteering their time and energy in communities around the world.
All of these motivations are meaningful. But our journeys begin with a different question: What if the most important part of travel isn’t what you see or do, but who you meet and how you’re met?
At Lutheran Partners in Global Ministry, we call this “Transformational Travel.”
Our trips aren’t designed around sightseeing checklists or volunteer projects. They are “risky endeavors” built around people. The primary goal is not to consume culture or to offer charity, but to share life together—listening, learning, and connecting across borders.
When you travel with LPGM, you’ll sit at dining tables, worship in local congregations, walk through neighborhoods, and share meals with partners. You’ll be welcomed as a guest, not as a tourist. And in that welcome, you’ll encounter the world not as “them” and “us,” but as a shared community of equals.
Something remarkable happens when we open ourselves to relationships like this.
Travel becomes more than a temporary escape. It becomes a mirror, reflecting back the truth that we are deeply connected. These encounters change us—sometimes in small ways, sometimes profoundly.
We come home carrying more than memories; we carry new questions, new commitments, and a renewed vision for how we live in our own communities.
Come with us. Meet the world face to face. Share life. Listen deeply. Carry these stories back home and let them shape the way you live.
Because when we travel this way, we discover something life-changing: the world doesn’t just need us—we need each other.
